Topic: How do i get to the GUI of SME server

HI ALL, Just done my first install of SME sever 5.5. How do i get to the GUI, rather than the "console mode" of SME server? I know I am "green at this new system"? Is it possible the video card AGP, is not SME compatable. NVIDIA to be exact. Thnkas for any responses..

Barry,

There is no GUI on SME. All config is done through either console/ssh or through the server manager interface (https://yourhost.yourdomain.com/server-manager).

RTFM..... Point a local browser at the ip of the server.

This will give you the specifics of using a browser on one of your client machines to access the server-manager application which will give you the GUI you are looking for.

G'day Barry,

When you set up the SME box you will have given it a static IP. In my case it was a pretty standard 192.168.1.1.  Point a browser at http://192.168.1.1:980/ and you should have no probs.  The SME web interface has been configured to serve on port 980.  If you leave that bit out you will get the SME box's default webpage.

you could also use http://192.168.1.1/server-manager  if you prefer that to the port 980.

Thanks to all responses to this thread. This is how a person,,learns about this, It is obvious, I am very green/new-bie,, to SME server  . Now I know how to access the GUI,,, of SME server.I have gotten to be able to see the server on our LAN/domain,at the school were i work,, but have run into another snag  when trying to "browse/open the webapge ,from a client machine, to see the GUI of SME server, See my new thread" how to bypass proxy logon" dated 12-12. And remember if you are in a network with plenty of users(untrusted),
its safer to use http://httpS://192.168.1.1/server-manager (HTTPS).

Using  http://192.168.1.1/server-manager    allows malicious users
to sniff your/users passwords.
