Ignore the message. CLAMAV will fix itself on its own. The message is from CLAMAV saying it can't reach the updates. The messages will go away once they can be reached.

;)

... and

in the message/log where you read "This version of ClamAV engine is outdated" you should read also "DON'T PANIC"
(cit.)

Thanks for your reply.

I think your right on the "mirror" issue that failed to fetch updates,
but the message
WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED!
2011-02-22 01:07:49.259749500 WARNING: Local version: 0.96.4 Recommended version: 0.97

I think this means that the engine to run  the db is not the latest???  Am I wrong ?? And that this component needs to be manually installed.

I have seen this before and had to update the version "manually". I think, that this update must be done by me, and does not happen automatically. Again am I wrong ??

Im not paniced but I know that eventually I will need to update this version as older versions will eventually be migraged out. Again my understading is that the Versions  need to be done by me. The rest is automatic.
Am I wrong ?

thanks

The latest ClamAV has never needed to be manually installed, have a look at this bug:

Thanks.
I did actually go to the clam web site as I always try read errors carfully, and went to the web site like it indicated. I read it through but it didn really answer the question for me or I missed it.  In fact using yum like it suggested, failed.  But I guess the repositories for our sw were not there.

As far as the bug report, I saw that but it concluded with...
          > and why doesn't it update automatically?
No, as most system administrators do not like automatic updates.

Which kind of confused me.

But being around SME for a while and haveing gone through this before. I think what I understand is that the new version is being tested, and while it is still in testing the error about the version will crop up. I guess it will go away when it finishes testing and is moved to the repositories for Gold versions of updates.

Thanks again.

No, as most system administrators do not like automatic updates.

Once the ClamAV has been verified it will then be moved to smeupdates and then become an automatic update.  I think the automatic update could be why doesn't it automatically update like the antivirus updates happen, but I could be wrong.

Latest Clamav and associated packages should be available in the update repo in a few days.
