vnStat for bandwidth usage..
« on: October 27, 2008, 02:47:26 AM »
Hey guys (gals),

I installed SME server 7.3 as a home file server and for backups. My ISP Comcast has recently instituted a cap on allowed bandwidth usage, and am looking for a simple way of monitoring usage. The tool vnStat (http://humdi.net/vnstat/) and the associated (but optional) php frontend (http://www.sqweek.com/sqweek/index.php?p=1) would seem like a perfect solution for my needs but I am wondering if anyone has installed it, and if there are SME .rpms for it, barring that, would CentOS rpms work?

Any assist is appreciated!

Perhaps you should check out the ready-made Sarg contrib before looking for anything more exotic.

I'm not 100% sure it will do everything you want, but it's a pre-made solution that integrates nicely with SME Server.

Well, I really liked vnstat better, sarg would only count the web traffic and not the total interface.

vnstat-1.4-3.2.el4.rf.i386.rpm works perfectly for me in SME 7.0, 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3.
vnstat_php_frontend-1.3.tar.gz is the easiest and quickest way to get web interface for it

I've updated wiki page..

it's necessary to give write permission to /var/lib/vnstat/* files or you receive such a mail:

Quote
Error:
Unable to write database "/var/lib/vnstat/eth0".
Make sure it's write enabled for this user.
Database not updated.

Ciao
Stefano

Gracie Stefano!
Realmente ho cambiato il proprietario della lima ed ho dimenticato di documentare.

Ciao
