Disable iptables
« on: February 21, 2008, 04:41:33 AM »
Hello all,
I have seen how to disable services with SME but there is listing for iptables/firewall.
I can stop the iptables daemon easy enough using /etc/init.d/iptables stop.
How can I make SME Server not start the service next reboot?
Our install here is Stand-alone which didn't disable iptables from install.
We don't need it as it just adds to the administration overhead.

[root@c3 ~]# config setprop masq status disabled
[root@c3 ~]# signal-event remoteaccess-update

William

How does it?

I can't think why anyone sensible would want to disable iptables...

Charlie, I'll let that one slide since you seem to have some decorations next to your name.
Some "sensible" people have a variety of other firewall solutions which make the SME firewall more of a hindrance than a help. Please don't try and "help" me again. Thanks

Thanks William for the commands, much appreciated!

And I want to know how it is a hindrance. How is SME server easier to administrate if you disable the firewall? I wasn't intending to waste your time in asking that question, and I did hope that you would answer.

I am glad that I am not the only one who feels that Charlie is, how shall we say, a little full of himself sometimes.

You know, Mark, I'm here pretty much every day, helping one person or another in one way or another. Your only two posts since just before Christmas (when you were also rude) were to step into old threads and criticise me. I hope that makes you feel useful, because it sure doesn't help my mood.

And you comment...

...didn't help axelmasok's mood, I am sure. It was way over the top. Maybe you should let other folks on this forum help people for a while.

Sorry to dog you wih this, Charlie, but you are going to shove people away from this fine project. You need to know that.  I have stopped asking questions myself for fear that you will ridicule me. That is not fair to a person who contributes $ to SME.

I don't understand your sensitivity to that comment. It is a simple true statement about my thoughts.

You are implying that axelmasok is not a sensible person. What else to you need to know? I am sensitive to it because you gave me the exact same treatment when I was trying to upgrade an old server. See the pattern?
