I know i have posted this already, but i'm desparate:)).  Any pointers, log files, or diag tools i could use to try and resolve this would be much appreciated:)

many thanks.
===============================================================
I have worked my way through the how-to @ http://internet-sicherheit.net/isdn4es-howto.html, and seem to be almost there. Although i still have 2 problems (i think;).

I am trying to setup an DigiCorp PCI Passive Modem with a HFC-S 2BDS0 chipset (HiSax type 35/36, tried both, 35 seems to work)

The first is that when i try and ping a site, the modem doesnt automatically come up. I get the following message in /var/log/messages:

>Sep 30 13:51:03 e-smith diald[363]: No devices free to call out on.
>Sep 30 13:51:03 e-smith diald[363]: Connect script failed.
>Sep 30 13:51:03 e-smith diald[363]: Delaying 1 seconds before clear to dial.
>Sep 30 13:51:05 e-smith diald[363]: Calling site 192.168.1.2
>Sep 30 13:51:05 e-smith modprobe: can't locate module char-major-43
>Sep 30 13:51:05 e-smith diald[363]: Error opening device /dev/ttyI0: No such dev
ice

If i run 'modprobe hisax' everything works fine, until i reboot. Can someone tell me how to set this to start automatically?

The second seems more serious:), once a connection is made, i can ping my ISP at about 80ms (my directly connected windows pc is quicker @ 40-50ms, and works fine). This ping will run for ages without any probs, although it does drop to +1000Ms quite often.

Once i try and open a web page from a client the web page starts to load _very_ slowly, and then eventually stops. The ping still running on the server drops to +1000, and eventually comes up with:-

>ping: wrote nt2.griffin.net.uk 64 chars, ret=-1
>ping: send to: Invalid argument.

Although the connection is still active, and as far as i can see works again if i leave it for a bit.

I have read on several pages that this could be to do with the ippd compression settings (i assume these are the same as pppd?), and it suggests turning them off. They also say to check the the MTU and MRU settings and block sizes. Where do i find/alter these?

This is what i get on a successfull 'modprobe hisax', and a connection if it helps?

Any suggestions, or places i can look to try and trace the problem will be very much appreciated:)

many thanks in advance:)

Danny.
PS: I realise this isnt a supported setup, but i'm sure theres are a lot of people out there using/wanting to use internal ISDN cards:))
