I now have an RPM of the ip_masq_icq kernel module available for download
at http://users3.50megs.com/danb35/download/ip_masq_icq-0.56-2.i386.rpm.  It's built with the 2.2.16-3 kernel used by e-smith.  At the moment, I don't have an
e-smith interface RPM or documentation ready, but it's available to install if anybody's interested.

ip_masq_icq handles masqing ICQ traffic, and allows users behind an e-smith box to do things like file transfers and direct chat, which wouldn't be possible otherwise.

At least one person has experienced segfaults when trying to use this module.  I haven't been able to duplicate this problem, though.  I'd appreciate any feedback on this package.  The source RPM is available at http://users3.50megs.com/danb35/download/ip_masq_icq-0.56-2.src.rpm.

Dan,
Help me out here. My family is using ICQ on win98 machines on my home-office lan.
E-smith 4.0 final is the server-gateway. ICQ appears to work fine. E-smith has been
running "right out of the box". Why would I need this new RPM file???

If you wanted to do direct chat (as opposed to messages), receive files, or (probably) some other ICQ features, you'd need this module.  If all you do is messages, it shouldn't make any difference, except that it'll also let you log connections in some detail, if you want to do that (might be useful for troubleshooting).

Thanks Dan,

Uh Oh! You are right on the money with that one. That what I like about this forum - my ignorance is always coming to the surface... Ha Ha. Great!
I will make the upgrade.

You are the best, man!
