Domain stuff
« on: August 22, 2000, 07:30:29 AM »
Hello, I have got e-smith setup as the DOMAIN for the network, but I would like to know how I can get win98 so that it wont allow the user to press escape and bypass login. ANd how I can make it so that only users that have been created on the e-smith server can login.

-thanks

I realize that i cannot stop users from bypassing the logon...but if a user does choose to bypass it how can I have it so they DO NOT have access to the internet. At present they still can get on the internet.

Geoff,

I dont know of any way to prevent TCP/IP traffic based on net login. That is the nature of TCP/IP.
There are ways of stopping traffic from specific IP addresses. Maybe someone
here knows more than I do. IPMASQ can use ip address to limit (or deny) access to the Linux internet
gateway, but doing it based on login is still beyond me.

We have tried this approach using application software on NT4 - but no luck.

If there is a way to do this I want to know about it.

well umm there is a few things you can do
first off play around with poledit its an util that shisp with
windows boxes that lets you edit certen setings on it like
having to log in and that kinda stuff

and if you setup the domin setings the wright way thay have
to log in!. as for not leting them get on the net
well thats a harder one

now if you could get windows to read the nis client info from a
linux box i probly could find a way but untill then
play with poledit
