e-smith web portal ready
« on: July 31, 2000, 02:49:04 AM »
I have modified phpnuke to make an e-smith web portal it is located at:

http://e-smith.made-to-order.net/

the object of this portal is to help bring togather the different contributed e-smith modules in one place.

Great!

I have some thoughts though, could an extra forum be made for a wish list for new modules, instead of enhancements to e-smith itself? No clear separation has been made up to now (I think). Maybe the wishlist system as used at www.webmin.com
could be adopted.

Some clear DOCs would be great. For example, the general redhat doc about building a distribution applied to e-smith.

just some random thoughts, if I get more, i'll post them here ;-)

Looks great to me! Can I install the phpNuke software directly to my E-Smith server, or do I have to install any modified RPMs?

Thanks

If you install Dan Brown's imp setup, for web mail then you don't need any other rpm's,

Actually you just need the mysql and php rpm's and it will work.

PHP3 or PHP4?

I am using 4,   all works great except for 1 thing,  urls in the middle of a story don't work, unless you make
sure to add 10 times at the top of the story.

what phpnuke does is use a redirector on the first 10 links in a story so it can count click on that story,  the redirector is broken with php4 so by adding then above html you bypass the click counting.

stories are easy enough to edit that if the phpnuke author gets it fixed soon I can take that block of code out of each story

I have tried this, but it doesn't look like users can post to the added sections.  I will keep trying.

I installed all of the rpms for PHP etc. and I installed PHPNuke, but when I try to use it (www.stodge.net/index.php3), the httpd process gives me a segmentation fault:

[Tue Aug  1 18:36:01 2000] [notice] child pid 4833 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)

Have you seen this happen before?

Any help appreciated.
thanks

have you restarted your e-smith?  I installed php so long ago I forgot,  but it seems like I had something like that till I got the rpms from Dan's site and installed them.

you did follow the README in phpnuke?  for making the database etc?

Do you mean physically reboot the machine? No, I didnt do that. Or just the httpd server?

just the way that they expand from the tar.gz file

you might go to the horde web site and run thru thier diagnostics  that makes sure php and mysql are working correctly, horde.org iirc  they have some tests to run with both mysql and with php that will make sure that they each do thier part and then that they wotk togather.

Not to worry - I screwed up the server, so I'm reinstalling it. Except now I cant get Windows to see the samba share. Oh well!  Thanks for the info. I'll let you know how I get on with PHPNuke later.

Thanks

Still doesn't work, except it doesn't crash this time.

It appears to be trying to access the database as root@localhost, which won't work because the default web user is www.

I did some testing; I tried a couple of other PHP3 based scripts and they all had a similar problem. At some point (typically) the main front page, the httpd daemon segmented with no indication as to why. Some pages do work (for all the apps I tried) but apache always died on the front page.

Are you using E-Smith 4? Any extras? I installed PHPNuke and others on a basic E-Smith 4.0 install with no updates. I'm completely confused.

I did a new install on a machine today it is going out at the end of the week so dscided to test on this machine.

clean 4.0 install to blank hard drive,  then i downloaded all the stuff from dan browns web page, installed per his instructions, tested imp to make sure it is working.

make new ibay called test

cd /home/e-smith/files/ibays/test
wget ftp://***phpnuke.tar.gz
tar -zxvf phpnuke.tar.gz

cd sql
mysqladmin create nuke -p
type password
mysql nuke < nuke.sql -p
type password

cd ../html
pico config.php3
changes setting to match my test

test in browser,   tested ok.

Okay, it's me again.

Have a question, I installed Nuke PHP and everything seemed fine, but I can't get my index page. Admin shows up and works untill I put in the user name and pass, and then I get the same thing as with the index page. stating that it can't be found on the server.

What's up? .....Tim?

It sounds like your mysql database is not working. go to this web site to diagnose your mysql and php3 setup

I checked both php and sql, they are fine.

I also dropped my database and remade it and populated it.

Still the same problem. Many of the pages show the same thing, saying that they are unavailable.

Any ideas?
