Updates done "the right way"!

Hello All.  I come to ask some advice.

I have a 5.6 box that the ftp service died on after I applied the update.  After trying to get proftpd working for much too long to admit,  I decided to do an e-smith backup, and reload.

My question is, would you reload the ISO, restore the userconfig and data and then apply the updates.

Or, would you reload the ISO, apply the updates, and then restore the userconfig and data.

Also, the updates readme.txt file says to do the following:

rpm -Uvh --oldpackage *.rpm
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot

Unfortunately, I did not "see" this when I did my last update, and however I did the update broke ftp.   I'm just trying to get some confirmation that this is all that is needed to "correctly" apply updates.

Thanks to all for any assistance you can offer.

Robert

You shouldn't need to reinstall your SME Server. Doing a "post-upgrade" followed by a reboot should get all your services, including ftp, back up. Mitel always publish an article with update instructions on the home page for every update.
