Can anyone fill in the gaps in my knowledge about setting up e-smith as an email server.

I am just about to be connected to ADSL and would like to use my esmith server for email.

I have got a static IP address with the ADSL and I have also bought a domain name, which is aministered from the web.  I have got the Static IP pointing to my new domain name.  I also want to setup email forwarding from that domain, but on the domain admin page I have been asked for MX records for my mail server.

Can someone explain where and how I find these, sorry if this is a very obvious question, but i am quite new to all this

You say you have a static IP, a domain name, and DNS service linking the two (i.e., resolving yourdomain.com to your IP address)?  Then in that case, there's really no "forwarding" to set up.  You shouldn't really need a separate MX record, but if your DNS host is asking for one, just give the full name of your server (that is, host.yourdomain.com).
