I figured out where I was going wrong  with the rise command, I was calling to the wrong arcive.
but the problem I am now finding is after I run affa, there is no archive, it is empty.

Hi - let's start with what you did for backups.
Did you back up to :
(1) a second PC or
(2) a USB disk or
(3) some other way.

If it was (1) and you still have the old system - or the old disk(s) - there is hope.
If it was (2) then there is maybe hope, maybe not.
If it was (3) then you need to spell it out and we can look to see if there is hope. But until you do, I do not know.

I say WE because I can give you information but you have to do the work.

You need to give more information about the old system, the backups and the AFFA config file. (In /etc/affa and its a file called {something}.conf eg serverbackup.conf

Cheers

I was backing it up to a second PC.
I still have the old system, and it is still in use.
I used the instructions from https://wiki.contribs.org/Affa#tab=For_SME9, modifying the config file to reflect the IP server I was trying to backup.

Doing the work is not a problem.

I have just gone to bed. I will get back to you in the morning (my morning). If you old system is still running, you have 100% hope ....well 99% at least.

You can do a backup to a USB disk from the old machine - a 1Tb disk is less than $100 here in Australia. Then a restore from USB on the new machine.
I use AFFA a lot and love it but the way I said above seems to be the most recommended.

I have used AFFA several times when upgrading just the way you wanted and had no trouble. Tomorrow we can see if there really is no archive or if there is an empty one or even if there is a hidden one eg a different name.

Cheers and good night.

Just completely reinstalled 9.2 on the new computer. Carefully went through the instructions step by step. Change the IP in the configuration listed in the instructions to match the server I'm trying to upgrade from.
the process seems to take only about 5 minutes. It has about 200 GB in use.
When I preform the "affa –-list-archives" command, there are no archives listed.
looking forward to your input.

If you still have your original server running you are golden.

You really should take a separate USB backup just in case. Never hurts.

When you run affa to backup it copies the files + configs to the new server.

When you 'rise' the new server it adjusts the hardlinks making it a fast operation.

What's in your /etc/affa ?

Any errors if you run affa manually?

What logs are in /var/log/affa?

Do the files exist on the new server?

Have a look on the new server for files in /var/affa

...
1. Read the Manual
2. Read the Wiki
3. Don't ask for support on Unsupported versions of software
4. I have a job, wife, and kids and do this in my spare time. If you want something fixed, please help.

So, Crazybob, how is it going? All fixed or have you given up?

Cheers
