Please recommend a replacement for VNStat
« on: October 17, 2019, 05:43:13 AM »
Hi all,

I had VNStat installed during the SME8.2 days and have noticed that there is no contrib for SME9.2. Could someone please recommend a replacement contrib that will generate the same traffic reports? I have Bandwidthd installed for reporting of individual device traffic but I liked the overall In/Out traffic report graphs for all NICs that VNStat used to provide.

Thanks.

Have you tried installing the old sme8.x contrib ?
I know there were some path differences & other issues (between 8.x & 9.x contribs), but it' s worth a try & then you can report the errors. Someone nice might upgrade it for you if there is demand or a request with a a big PLEASE included.

It appears to still be there

Hi Janet,

Thanks for replying. I've taken a look at the repo you linked and I couldn't see nor search for the vnstat contrib. I set up the SME8 contrib repo anyway and tried to install in case I has having a stroke but yum couldn't find an install target either.

The wiki article for vnstat says it was originally in the dag repo which now seems to be defunct.

If you could please post a direct link to the rpm file, I would appreciate it.

Anyway, If I browse to the old vnstat ibay I had set up, the php files are still there and displaying blank graphs as there is no data being collected as the vnstat program is not there.

Thanks.

Sorry I was abberating.
I replied with the link for webshare RPM.

AFAIK the dag repo is defunct, replaced in effect by the epel repo.

You can install vnstat from epel for sme9.

Configure the epel repo first
https://wiki.contribs.org/Epel#tab=For_SME_9_x

Then
yum install vnstat --enablerepo=epel
signal-event post-upgrade
signal-event reboot

It appears to find the rpm & dependencies & start the instal OK, I did not proceed.

Hi Janet,

Thank you so much. I now have vnstat installed from the epel repo using the php frontend I had installed in SME8.2 and it is working.

Now, to download the latest php frontend from sqweek.com and test it out. Unfortunately, it looks like an abandoned project as the last update was in 2010.

I'll report back once I've tested it.

Thanks again for your time and advice. I LOVE this forum!
