You need to find out what this is and what it does.

Direct-Access HP 8GB_EM_USB_Drive PMAP

At a random guess, possibly something to do with onboard RAID?

You ought to check your box is compatible with RHEL/CentOS 6

It might be you have to disable something internally/in BIOS
...
1. Read the Manual
2. Read the Wiki
3. Don't ask for support on Unsupported versions of software
4. I have a job, wife, and kids and do this in my spare time. If you want something fixed, please help.

Thanks.  The specs show that the box is compatible.  I'll give HP a call and check on the onboard RAID.

I appreciate your help!

Well, somewhere it has detected a drive.

Can you check dmesg and see what gets picked up on boot?

Specifically looking at /dev/sdb

Possibly missed the internal usb port has usb drive in it ?

That's what I was wondering.

No idea what it is for or what is on the stick but pretty sure there is one there.

Thanks for the further input.  I'll do some digging when I am at the box tomorrow.  I'll report what I find when I find an answer.

If it is really there, then you will have to remove or disable the internal USB drive.

According to the manual:

Internal USB device options
The server has an internal USB 2.0 port that you can use to install internal USB devices such as:
USB flash media devices for booting up from flash solutions or for data backup/redundancy.
USB devices that are intended to be rarely removed such as a USB dongle for Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi support.
Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.

Thank you, Janet.

I read the users manual for the server and it was not clear to me which option to choose to safely disable the onboard RAID in the BIOS.  I viewed some videos on how to setup RAID, but none of them covered how to disable.

Unless someone with experience on this machine can assist, I will give HP a call.

Thanks, I will do that when I can get to the server over the weekend.  In the meantime, I have created a case with HP to make sure that I can switch to software RAID.  I'll report the results.
