Can I make this more frequent?
« on: March 28, 2019, 06:31:44 PM »
In the gui my server connects to the outside server and downloads all the messages every 5 minutes.

I was wondering if I can make it even faster? Like have it do it every minute!

5 minutes is the shortest in the gui.

The real answer is don't use fetchmail - run SME as a proper mail server that receives mail directly via SMTP. You will then receive mail as soon as it hits the server.

You could potentially modify the fetchmail timings at the command line but you then risk a second fetchmail starting before the first has completed downloading your mails and getting yourself into knots.

1. Read the Manual
2. Read the Wiki
3. Don't ask for support on Unsupported versions of software
4. I have a job, wife, and kids and do this in my spare time. If you want something fixed, please help.

It literally takes seconds to get all the mail that is in queue for 5 minutes so it would be even faster if it happened every minute. Although I do understand the issue here.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to tamper too hard.

Thanks for some direction :)

As long as all is working good, yes only few seconds. If you start having a huge attachement and clamav slowing the delivery you can easily get it to take minutes.

Also, emails have never been designed for immediate delivery, but rather to avoid to have it lost.

If you need immediate delivery, choose an IM. Rocket chat could be one.

This is why I come to the pros when I have an issue. Too true is you just don't want to ever lose an email :)

Thanks again guys!

NP.

We get lots of big artwork attachments and I couldn't live with POP delivery so moved it SME to a cloud box and did it myself. That made huge difference and got ver people complaining emails weren't 'instant' (even though in reality there is no guarantee that they are)

JPP is right - looking at an instant chat solution like Rocketchat may be another way to do it - it really is pretty instant. They are really pretty cool and worth a look if you have not tried anything like it before. Lots of different authentication options, channels, livechat for websites etc etc etc

By all means ask me for a login to our Rocket instance I run and come and chat with us and have a look. (You can get my mail address from bugzilla - just drop me a line)
