Multicast functionality?
« on: September 13, 2017, 08:34:58 AM »
I'm hitting a wall where I need to have multicast functionality on our network.  We have an SME Server box acting as the primary gateway / router for our subnet and we have a wireless router that's just acting as a dumb network bridge for wireless devices in the office.  I've outlined the issue here and would appreciate any thoughts or insights you might have on the issue if it could be a problem with the SME Server config blocking multicast functionality.

Are your wired clients on the same IP subnet as the wired systems?

I wanted to make a couple "airprint" printers available to visitors on my 'guest' network last year, and learned in the process that multicast / mDNS traffic does not move from one network (broadcast domain) to another.

Yes, both wired and wireless systems are all on the same subnet.

So I found that the issue was the wireless router.  All multicast traffic tests passed on through the SME Server and switches just fine.  Ended up having to move to a DD-WRT device instead with more control and freedom in this area.
