Odoo on SME Server 10
« on: July 22, 2017, 06:32:58 PM »
JFYI,

I have successfully installed Odoo on SME Server 10alpa3. It is still a WIP and a page with limited notes. Please give it a try and report back here if you like.

TIA

Will this work on 9.2 or does it need 10?

I had it working on 9.2 (based on SCL), need to find my notes on that and will add to the wiki.

Would I be out of line to ask what a write-up about installing third-party software under SME 10 is going in the SME 9 contribs forum?

Nope, perfectly fine question. I already asked moderation to create a SME10 contribs forum and move the topic over.

off topic but will we be able to upgrade to 10 from 9 or will it be new hw again? (I know I could use a backup but 9.x usb backup is broke) I use affa and a usb drive but the usb bit hasn't worked for a bit due to a power failure during backup

Technically, yes. Practically, no idea yet.

The 5-6 upgrade 'clean install' was due to decisions taken by RHEL regarding rpms.

Whether it is possible to use the 6-7 'upgrade' tool in conjunction with SME software remains to be seen.

At the minute v10 is very much Alpha and a lot of other stuff needs to be fixed first.

...
1. Read the Manual
2. Read the Wiki
3. Don't ask for support on Unsupported versions of software
4. I have a job, wife, and kids and do this in my spare time. If you want something fixed, please help.

FYI

Odoo on SME Server 9.2 is too complicated and has many fragile dependencies on Python via Software Collections. The current versions of Odoo (9 and 10) require a minimum of Python 2.7 and a bulk ,load of Python modules that are not available via Software Collections. So basically Odoo on SME Server 9.2 is a no go... Sorry.

ATM, since SME10 is still in early alpha stage, there's no contribs section here..

that said, everything related to SME10 must be here or in development forum

I also installed the latest odoo (12) on sme10a3, almost exactly following the wiki and it works fine.

i did this inside a hyperV machine

the only difficulties are systemd-related (no autostart created) but some manual tinkering made it work fine.
