AFter a recent update we realized we could not log in with Admin from a web browser and could not do an update and restart. MAil was still coming in. THe workstation doing the update may have been reset after starting the update, so the reconfigure and reboot had not taken place.
DOing a contol alt delete reboot of server and rebooting workstation as well caused more issues as now we were locked out, mail was not working, and password was not accepted from web browser.
I feared we might be in the process of being hacked and began a search on resetting password but thought to try logging in from SME server itself and yes I was able to log into admin with password directly on server, just not by web browser. I ran the software reconfigure and reboot and everything worked again.
