Hi,

Does anybody here did install SME Server in Google Cloud?

I'm thinking about it and I needed some advice.

Thanks

No real reason why it won't barring driver issues.

If it will run stock RedHat or CentOS then Koozali SME v9 should work, particularly now you can have virtual adaptors.

I run a number on Proxmox hosts without any issues. With the virtual network adaptor you can create a dummy 'internal' network and then have the server in server/gateway mode with firewalling.

Seems there are quite a few restrictions on it though e.g. you can't run it as a full mail server and will have to use a Google smarthost etc

Lots of good stuff here https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/concepts

Worth a detailed read before you start. May save a lot of pain later.

Thanks, John. That made me think a lot.
My problem is that this server is precisely for email.

Thanks and regards,

No problems.

I did wonder and hence why I had a read :-)

It's Googles way, or the highway!

There are plenty of alternatives out there, which makes me happy as Google already have their tentacles in too many parts of our lives.

If you want to run emails you can try in europe ovh.com or online.net to only cite 2.
Any hosting service who offers Centos 6 and let email traffic would let you install SME9 with a few trick on the server. Besides, if they provide a virtualization distribution such as proxmox, it makes your life easier to isntall and administrate your SME. It is almost 10 years I run SME server on remotly hosted hardwares.

Ovh doesn't permit to install SME

Ovh doesn't permit to install SME
sure they do. They have centos compatible hardware.
I have plenty SME installed at OVH. Only a few are virtualized, most of them are bare install on server. see
- http://smeserver.pialasse.com/index.php/Serveur_ovh_2011
- http://smeserver.pialasse.com/index.php/Serveur_ovh
- http://smeserver.pialasse.com/index.php/Rescue_OVH

For a bare install you have two solutions:
- without rescue access ( hability to boot on another system and to mount your server disk ), you can upgrade a centos 6 to get a SME9 :https://wiki.contribs.org/index.php?title=SME_on_CentOS_6&oldid=18561
- with a rescue mode as available at OVH, you can follow my how to (in French) and you will be able to rsync the content of a locally prepared SME installation.

Of course this is not an easy out of the box task, but they do not forbid you from choosing your distro as state your answer!

and still you can choose one of their virtualization distro and then install one to 4 SME with their extra IPs available with the hardware.

sorry for my concise answer, I was on smartphone and writing is a pain..
BTW, about a year ago a friend of mine decided to buy a VPS on ovh.net and the idea was to install SME9..

thank you
they are in my previous post
again, the easiest way would be to install proxmox as provided by ovh and then put SME in a VM, but both way are possible.
