Elections 2016

Hello members of the SME community.

Where has the last year gone ?

The time has come to elect the Board for the forthcoming year.

A lot has moved during the last year. First John after 3 years leading the foundation and creating with a solid team has decided it was time for him to concentrate a little more on his work and family. Do not worry he is still around and contributing.  RequestedDeletion also recently decided to step from the board. Stéphane de Labrusse will finish his mandate at the end of this year and has decided not to renew on the board.
However we had some fresh blood this year on the board. Dan Brown and  Nicolas Candelier stepped in during the year. They are both long term user and contributor of SME. Dan is known for a few how to and contribution since the early time of SME. Nicolas is a member of the French community also known as kankan. He will help us with the next step of using Koozali branding in social media and making all the SME forums, wiki and so know look fresh and 2017!
Also, as John left the position of president of Koozali, I (Jean-Philippe Pialasse) now assume to be president of Koozali foundation.

To cite John : « Once again we have not been idle, though yet again we have spent too much time 'fire-fighting' and not enough developing for the future. ». I am, however happy to say we have SME 10 on its way with an alpha 2. Still a lot to do, but it is heading the right direction.

Donations keep coming - we have enough to keep the infrastructure running. We would like now to make a few fund-raising in order to be bale to pay for some development. As we have experienced in the last years we have a lot of good ideas, but we miss the people to code them in a short time as we only account on free spare time of only few community members.

SME8 is end of life in less than 5 month now. So only a little will be done there. Please migrate now to SME9!

SME9 is about see a new iso in the next weeks. A lot of work has been done on emails.

SME 10 as I said is alpha2. It is based on centos 7. You should be able to use the iso to install it easily. We still have a lot to do to make sure all services are still rnning smoothly. Also we planned to improve the ibays, backup, emails, and a new manager. Also you will see horde 5 as webmail thanks to the work of John H. Bennett III.

I would like to thank you all board member and all contributors for their hard work during the last 12 months. Also thank you for all the donators, and all members of the community helping each others through the forum and mailing lists. If you have spare time please consider joining us on the board.

You do not have to be a coder to help. The Board is there predominantly to oversee the finances of Koozali SME Server. As there are few active developers, then those on the Board take such decisions on the future development as required, but in consultation with other developers. Also people skilled in communication would be a perfect match on the board to help developing the community.

Voting

To keep things simple I intend to run the Election as we did last year. Vote will stay open for 15 days as stated in the by-Laws, running until December 15th 00:00 east time.

To keep the process simple the list of current members wanting to continue is proposed in a separate post, and if you agree with the list then you could follow up with a Subject line of "Vote".

On this basis we make the assumption that you are voting for one of the listed Nominees.

If there is anyone who does not agree with re-election of the nominated people, then please state in a follow up to this post and we will have to separate it out.

If you wish to stand for election yourself then please start a new post with a title of "Nominee - Your Name" and write a little about who you are and why you should be elected.

If more than 9 people stand, then we will split it into individual votes and work from there.

Please DO NOT use any of the threads to try and make political capital etc or start long debates. Any such threads will be removed and the user banned. Please just VOTE or NOMINEE and nothing else.

Best regards

Jean-Philippe

Elections are now closed for this year. Our thanks to all those who voted.

There were a total of 15 votes in favour of the nominated members.

The Board will be constituted as voted for in the forthcoming year.
