Topic: backup and restore from 7.4 to 8.2?

Hi all,
 
ot been lazy, but I have a fresh install of 8.2 SME server on new machine.. we are already have the SME server 7.4 in production ( server-GW) it is also our main GW. It also server site-to-site VPN and User VPN. all manual configure.
On the new server version 8.2 we would like it to replace the 7.4 with all of its roles and services. is it possible to backup the 7.4 and restore it into the 8.2 and will be full function as the previous.

the only answer is "maybe"

from 7.6 I'd say "yes" (but depends on what you mean by "all manual configure")

your best bet is to try/test in a virtual environment

You wil have to reinstall contribs or add ons, but configuration data for supported contribs shouls be restored, refer here:

which says
"The sme backup & restore concept is that only data (users & ibays) and configuration (including all mysql dbs and custom templates) is backed up & restored. All contribs (ie installed as rpms) are not backed up and normal templates (which are installed by the system or add on contribs) are not backed up.

A restore is done to a fresh installation of sme server, and then contribs are reinstalled. As configuration data is restored, you should not need to setup those reinstalled contribs again."
