What do you actually need it for... i.e. what functionality do you require ?

ipoe...with optus australia...want to bridge modem to server and use to identify with using sme...not this crap of using static ip on server as if modem in bridge I still need auth to optus...I have a ata for voip which will plug into the switch

Have you tried the build in pppoe fucntionality of SME ?

when configuring your external interface, you need to choose pppoe in console, then fill user name and password :
