MULTIPLE MODEMS ON THE WAN INTERFACE
« on: February 13, 2016, 03:11:47 AM »
Have an SME 8.x box and want to have users enter the system through the available modems (M1-M4) without using an external device. I connected the modems to a switch assigning each modem an internal address in the external segment (eth1) of the Sme server ie; M1=192.168.100.1 M2=192.168.100.2 MX=192.168.100.X and the Sme external nic (eth1) on the same segment with 192.168.100.254.

The problem is that only the default Gateway modem answers to external user requests. If delete the default gateway and assign it to another modem then that modem will allow external connections. With this setup the best I can do is a fail safe using a ping routine to determine if the line is up and change the default gateway to the next modem if it is down (sort of a fail safe scenario without an external box) but I want the server to be able to answer external requests through all the modems regardless of the gateway setting.  Multiple gateways? Iptable rules? Not posible? Any help will certainly be appreciated.
