to receive emails you need to setup your MX priority at highest level, i.e. at lower value (priority 5 is better than 10)

sending emails has nothing to do with your MX setup, so your question doesn't make sense :-)

...and if your server is the only MX record, it doesn't matter what the priority is for receiving either.  It could be 0, it could be 100, or any other valid value.  The priority value only matters if there's more than one MX handler.

your domain's mx record has nothing to do with sending.

For receiving, you don't even need an MX record. If your domain has no MX records, and your domain has an A record, then all mail will be sent to the IP address listed in your A record, via port 25 or 465. If your domain has one MX record, then that IP address will be used in preference to the IP address in the A record. Only if you have more than one MX record does priority matter. Do not have more than one MX record for your domain.

Dear All

Ahmedsa was previously given advice to remove the second MX record  in this thread:
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php/topic,51682.0/nowap.html
(which apparently pointed at a misconfigured server).

It looks like it has NOT been fixed, but it also looks like there is a wrong configuration generally
ie using mserver.altawi.com & altawi.com.sa pointing at different IPs (????)
See
http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?ismobile=0#
which shows
mx:altawi.com.sa
0 mserver.altawi.com.sa 78.93.244.61
1 altawi.com.sa 212.93.222.10

I think that the changes needed here are to rename the SME server main domain to
altawi.com.sa (instead of mserver.altawi.com.sa)
& to change external MX records to have either no entries (which is acceptable to SME server requirements), or only one entry which shows
mx:altawi.com.sa
0 altawi.com.sa 78.93.244.61
(I used 78.93.244.61 as that is what ahmedsa said the server IP is in the other thread).

Do others agree ?

It seems at the moment that 78.93.244.61 is not resolving (times out with 110 error), so there is also something wrong with DNS, or the physical connection, I am not sure which or what ???
Also http://212.93.222.10 gives an error at http://212.93.222.10/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi

altawi.com.sa does resolve to a website
mserver.altawi.com.sa does NOT resolve & times out, so I think that server is down or connecting intermittently, so that could explain intermiitent mail problems

Well your server was non responsive, no website, no smtp, no response to its WAN IP.
So what did you or someone do to get the server to be responsive eg reboot, change cables, change something ????
I note the MX record priority for altawi.com.sa points firstly to mserver.altawi.com.sa & if that is down, then mail goes to altawi.com.sa, a different server.
I a guessing you host the website on one server (altawi.com.sa) & the mail is processed by another server (mserver.altawi.com.sa).
So that means that if mserver.altawi.com.sa SME server is down or non responsive, then all
Incoming mail will be sent to the web hosting server at altawi.com.sa, & maybe the mail is just disappearing into a bit bucket or null or sitting uncollected in email accounts on that web hosting server.

You need to advise us what the physical arrangement is, we can only guess.

So if your SME server at mserver.altawi.com.sa was down (which it was) then that would explain the lost or disappearing mail.
You need to tell us more if your question is to be answered sensibly

and i have Cisco router connected with server responsible for generated static IP 78.93.244.61
i don't know why
but this what happen

Despite all the advice we have given you, you still have two mx records. Your mail will sometimes go to altawi.com.sa (212.93.222.10) and sometimes to mserver.altawi.com.sa (78.93.244.61). Unless you are 100% certain that your webhost provider (212.93.222.10) will correctly forward email to your server at 78.93.244.61, you must delete the mx record named altawi.com.sa.

You appear to be very stubborn. I cannot be bothered to try to help you any more.

2- if i need to see email that go to altawi.com.sa

Something is wrong, probably with external DN records &/or nameservers, you need to talk to whoever is in charge of your external DNS records & you need to talk to whoever is in charge of your nameservers for altawi.com.sa.

That is a similar issue to what I experienced in earlier testing
When I use Firefox web browser pointed at http://altawi.com.sa
- altawi.com.sa does resolve to a website
When I use Firefox web browser pointed at http://212.93.222.10
- Also http://212.93.222.10 gives an error at http://212.93.222.10/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi
I cannot explain what is causing that to happen, ask your external DNS tech support people.

Can you clarify, is altawi.com.sa domain hosted on another external web server, which is hosting the web site only ?
This domain name has a different IP asssociated with it ie 212.93.222.10, but last time I checked that was not resolving in a web browser.
(by this I mean a server other than server at IP 78.93.244.61 with domain mserver.altawi.com.sa).

Regarding your earlier comments
Quote

how it down i check it when send or receiving is down i found my server turn on

Well CAREFULLY read the result of my testing earlier in this thread in this post:
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php/topic,51954.msg265330.html#msg265330

When I use Firefox web browser pointed at http://78.93.244.61
- It seems at the moment that 78.93.244.61 is not resolving (times out with 110 error)...
When I use Firefox web browser pointed at http://mserver.altawi.com.sa
- mserver.altawi.com.sa does NOT resolve & times out....
so I think that server is down or connecting intermittently, so that could explain intermittent mail problems

Another indication that your SME server at mserver.altawi.com.sa was down, is that an smtp test failed
ie
Using online tools at http://mxtoolbox.com

You say

email send and receive stopped two days or 3 days every month then come back again

Well you have some sort of problem, if you say the server was still powered up, then something is stopping access, eg was your Cisco firewall functioning, is it on a UPS ? was your router between the firewall & SME server functional, is it on a UPS ? Are you sure the Internet connection was stable & connected, have you checked logs during those 3 day periods ? Maybe you have faulty equipment that fails intermittently.
You really need a clever technician to help your resolve this.

The domain name of your mailserver appears to be
mserver.altawi.com.sa
Today if I put http://mserver.altawi.com.sa into Firefox I get a page which gives the standard SME server default message

Clearly your server at mserver.altawi.com.sa was not responding a few days ago when tested, & now it is.
There has to be a reason for this somewhere, & that is likely to be the source of your ongoing email delivery & sending issues (ie it was offline).

Firstly I would remove the second MX record for altawi.com.sa, mail will/should be queued on sending servers if mserver.altawi.com.sa is down.
Having the backup MX record is probably also the source of some of your mail delivery problems (ie mail was sent to a null destination on the server at altawi.com.sa or simply not processed at all when your server at mserver.altawi.com.sa was down or non responsive) ...... (but I assume which I am prone to do).

You need to find & prove what the problems are, we can only suggest & advise.
You need to get higher level technical support to help resolve your problems, I am sure I previously advised you of that need in other posts here.
We here have tried & advised many things, & you do not seem to respond to that advice, so time for you to find the answers your way.
Bye bye from me also.

Have you removed (deleted) the second MX record entry ?

The other mail server at altawi.com.sa appears to require authenticated smtp connection & that may mean it is not accepting mail sent to  mserver when mserver is down. That could explain your lost mail.
Mail will be queued in the originating server if mserver is down temporarily so you do not need a second MX record, as it is now the second MX record does not appear to be processing your mail, so best get rid of it.

Try running a smtp test on altawi.com.sa using mxtoolbox site & you will see the output.

As to why your mserver goes down or is inaccessible from the Internet periodically for a few days at a time I cannot say, you have to troubleshoot that.

Re-read my earlier posts if you do not understand the above & run some tests for yourself, you have all the website links needed.

Have you removed (deleted) the second MX record entry ?

No. Perhaps ahmedsa is deliberately wasting our time.

Thank you for reply
No i not deleted
what i need is to understand two points
1-how to refer altawi.com.sa to ip 78.93.244.61
2-If i make one entry altawi.com.sa refer to 78.93.244.61
in this time what relation between my server mserver and altawi.com.sa
meaning i receive emails in mserver.altawi.com.sa why i change to altawi.com.sa
suppose i receive emails in altawi.com.sa
what is link between mail server mserver and altawi.com.sa
I need to apply what above if possible show me points i mention

Your question has already been answered in the 5th, 10th & 14th posts in this thread ie
make your mx record look like this (which will be achieved by deleting the second entry referred to previously)

(Edited to correct, I copy & pasted in error)
mx:altawi.com.sa
0 altawi.com.sa 78.93.244.61
0 mserver.altawi.com.sa 78.93.244.61

What this will achieve is that all mail for altawi.com.sa will be delivered to mserver mail server, which is what you want AFAICT

You already have the first mx record configured.
So leave this unchanged
0 mserver.altawi.com.sa 78.93.244.61

What you need to do is delete the second mx record
ie delete this
1 altawi.com.sa 212.93.222.10

I corrected my post of a few posts back, due to copy & paste error.
My last post before this one is correct.

If you had done this change months ago, then we would not still be here wasting our time telling you what to do for many repeated times.

Delete the second mx record & please do not post any more questions until you have done that. We want to see the change in external DNS records that shows the updated mx records.

DanB35's test on your open ports is suggestive that you do not have required ports open & forwarded to your SME server eg 25, 80 for starters, & more depending what services you run etc.
Something appears to be changing this situation/setup, as you say sometimes "it" works & sometimes "it" does not work.

You can do a test from a workstation that is behind your SME server
ie
a workstation on the LAN that is using your SME server as a gateway,
go to
http://www.grc.com
& run a port scan to see what ports are open.

I think you previously said your SME server is in server only mode & you have a Cisco firewall in front of it, is that correct ?
Check the Cisco firewall to see what ports are open & see if they are forwarded to your SME server.

If you do not know how to do this then you need to get an IT professional to help you.

RequestedDeletion is correct though, you need to focus on identifying & fixing the problem.
The issue is that ports do not appear to be open, why not, how come ?

RequestedDeletion and Janet have already correctly mentioned that nmap isn't part of the standard e-smith/SME distribution, but if you're doing it from within your network, it isn't going to produce valid results anyway.  The problem (or at least a problem) is that your firewall is blocking access to the port that's used for email delivery from outside your network (as well as access to pretty much every other port).  You need to fix your firewall configuration.

Who is responsible for maintaining your network?  You?  Because if that's your job, and you've got a firewall device that you don't know anything about, you've got bigger problems than your email.  If that isn't your job, then talk to the person whose job it is, and tell them they need to open up the firewall so mail can be delivered to your server.

Your immediate problem is the firewall.  It's blocking access to port 25, which means that incoming mail can't reach your SME server.  I don't think any of us can say whether there may be a problem with the configuration of your SME server as well, but that isn't the immediate problem.  Cisco is a worldwide organization.  I guarantee there is support available for Cisco devices in Saudi Arabia (heck, there's probably support available in Antarctica).  I don't know if you'd be best dealing direct with Cisco, or with a local IT professional.  Or you can remove the firewall entirely and set your SME server to server/gateway mode, in which it will act as the router/firewall itself.  Unless you need some advanced firewall configuration (which seems unlikely, if you don't know anything about the device in the first place), this is probably your best bet.

If you want support for your server, and there aren't SME-knowledgeable IT pros locally, look for one who's familiar with CentOS 6 / Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.  RedHat's web site (http://redhat.force.com/finder/FindPartner) lists 25 or so vendors in Saudi Arabia; those certainly aren't the only folks who know RHEL, but they would have gone through some training and certification with them, no doubt, and certainly would have paid some sort of fee to be listed.

https://www.theknowledgeacademy.com/sa/courses/linux-distributions-software-training/sme-server-software/dammam/ appear to have a training course in SA on SME Server (it isn't 100% clear that it's the same SME Server, but it sure sounds like it); they may offer support as well.  They were just the second search result when I googled "sme server 9 support saudi arabia"; I have no other knowledge or affiliation with them.

Tél : +33.5 56 64 15 32
Mail : contact@firewall-services.com
Web : www.firewall-services.com

There is another person in Australia, Graeme Robinson, not sure if he wants to support you in SA, but no technical reason he could not.
He posts here & on bugzilla from time to time, so search & ask.

If agreeable they (Firewall Services) could provide remote support & they know SME server very well.
You are probably better off using someone who understands SME/Koozali server, as other support people may suggest you replace the server with something else, which sort of defeats the intent.

Can you answer the following please:

Why do you need to have a seperate Cisco router in front of your SME server ?
Why do you need or prefer to have SME server in server only mode ?
Is it feasible from a network perspective/reason that you reconfigure the SME to be in server & gateway mode, & reconfigure the physical modem (maybe it's a router) to be in bridged mode (which passes signals straight through with no internal functionality) & you completely remove the Cisco or any other firewall.
That is the simplest & in many cases most effective way of using SME server ie
in server & gateway mode with a modem in bridged mode acting as the connection to the Internet. In this mode, SME server acts as the router & firewall (masq), so no seperate firewall is needed.

Why do you need/prefer to use a corporate DNS server ?
(SME server can do that job quite well on its own) ?

What/why is the reason you have another router ?
(linksys gateway 192.168.1.1 for internet connected with Cisco router each other in switch)
My  guess is that your Internet access for SME server is switching between these firewalls & they are configured differently, one is forwarding ports to SME & one is not, that could be the source of your problem, but I am guessing.

You still have not explained about the domain name (URL), it seems altawi.com.sa is hosted on another server & is providing the web site hosting, & your mail is handled by a different server ie the mserver.altawi.com.sa on a different WAN IP
Why have you split them (if that is correct) ?

Quote

Well that is not necessarily correct, something has changed, you are just claiming you made no changes or are not aware of any changes having been made.
Something has changed (eg settings, hardware failure, reconfiguration that someone else did ????)

The sooner you accept that something has changed (ie happened) then you are more likely to start looking at your total system to find what has happened.

You need to explain more fully.

SME server can act as the router for your network, & act as the interface gateway to the Internet, all you need is a modem in bridged mode between SME server & your incoming Internet connection eg ADSL phone line.

Probably your Cisco router could be "dumbed down" & you turn off routing functionality & other functionality eg DHCP etc & set it up purely in bridged modem mode.

You need to answer all questions, just answering one partially does not contribute much to this discussion. Are you lazy ?

What about the second router gateway (firewall ?) why do you need that ?

Draw a detailed diagrammatic layout of your network & show how various devices (SME, routers, Cisco etc) all connect together etc.
Post it back here. This may help us to understand your network.

The short answer to resolve all this is:
Look up the handbook online for your Cisco router & reconfigure it for bridged modem mode (passthrough), turn off ALL other functionality eg DHCP, WAP, dynamic hosting, port forwarding etc etc.
Reconfigure your sme server in server & gateway mode. Enter all the ISP login details & static IP into the admin console, via the "Configure this server" screens.
SME server will do everything your Cisco router has been doing, but with less hassle & it will be easier for you to manage using the SME "server manager".

I cannot do this remotely for you, I don't think anyone can, so you will have to learn how to do this yourself, or pay someone locally who understands how to set up this sort of equipment ie a network technician. They do not need to be an SME server expert.
They can read the SME server Manual online & should be able to work it out if they are technically minded.

...and I now look forward to you following through on your committment "but how if you show me i agree for that and i will do every step you tell me"
Start now.

Mail server settings
Primary domain name: altawi.com.sa
System name: mserver
Local networking 192.168.1.4
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Operation mode: server only

Corporate dns server: 212.93.192.5

Mx record
0 mserver.altawireadymix.com

Public ip: 78.93.244.61

Structure of network
I have switch panel
Have 25 computers
In this switch connected 25 computers
Connected with switch panel
Linksys router his Ip 192.168.1.1 distribute internet to all computers in domain dsl internet and this is following to dsl telephone line different about Cisco firewall that using another telephone line dsl also
Firewall Cisco router 800 series is connected also in switch panel and his ip locally 192.168.1.254

Select server and gateway dedicated
Then enter login details for your ISP account & username etc

In server and gateway mode you need 2 network cards (NICs) in your SME server

Remove Cisco router from switch

Reconfigure Cisco router to bridged (passthrough mode), usually you temporarily connect the Ethernet port directly to a workstation to do this but read the Cisco manual, eg connect it temporarily directly to a workstation Ethernet connection & login to the Cisco admin interface

Then after Cisco set to bridged mode, connect it directly via Ethernet cable to WAN NIC on SME server
Connect line to other telephone line with ADSL service

Connect SME server LAN NIC ethernet port to LAN switch

For mserver.altawi.com.sa
you only have an A record pointing to 78.93.244.61
Also there appear to be no nameservers, so it does not surprise me to find that
in a web browser mserver.altawi.com.sa does not resolve - Connection refused error

Also there is no mx record for altawi.com.sa anymore, it seems it has been changed since yesterday, so incoming mail will not be directed to your mail server ie mserver.altawi.com.sa.

It appears you have setup/changed everything incorrectly (in external DNS & MX records).

The solution proposed to reconfigure the router to be a modem in bridged mode & change server mode to server & gateway, is the answer to a lot of your (internal configfuration) problems (eg open port management).

Someone claims the firewall is configured to allow open ports, well here is the port scan showing open ports & it does not agree with what you claim
Without a lot of other ports being open & forwarded to your "SME server only mode" mail server, then the mail server will not function, so you have firewall problems. Your support people are telling you lies or not doing their job.

nmap -O 78.93.244.61
Starting Nmap 6.25 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2015-11-24 03:26 AEDT

I read on his website that Graeme Robinson only provides ad hoc support to clients who have an annual support contract with him, so maybe you should try someone else.

I cannot help you any more, you are wasting peoples time here.

Please engage a tech support person to sort out your problems, as it seems you clearly do not understand what you are doing.
It is waste of our time when you will not follow the advice given.

You have internal configuration problems & you have external DNS & MX record configuration problems, & you seriously lack an understanding & comprehension of these technical matters.
Talk to someone locally who understands all these things & you may get the matter resolved.
I doubt that you wil resolve it yourself.

As requested strongly before, it's time for a complete drawing with all details (e.g. Visio drawing with all components, IP's, services etc). Also, you need to take a fixed point in time to discuss all this and do not change anything anymore. The drawing should have version updates as per change you are making.

you keep telling us that "it doesn't work"
if it works for a while and then it stops working, there must be a reason and you likely will find it in the logs

Despite all the advice given here, you *still* don't have the internet connected to port 25 of your SME server. There is a different mail server at altawi.com.au:

-bash-3.00$ telnet altawi.com.sa. 25
Trying 78.46.81.166...
Connected to altawi.com.sa..
Escape character is '^]'.
220-server.tl4s11.com ESMTP Exim 4.86 #2 Tue, 01 Dec 2015 18:08:48 +0100
220-We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited,
220 and/or bulk e-mail.

The system which is hosting your website is not running SME server software.

-bash-3.00$ lynx -head -source http://altawi.com.sa/
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: nginx
Date: Tue, 01 Dec 2015 17:14:39 GMT
Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8
Connection: close
X-Powered-By: PHP/5.3.29

You currently don't have any MX records in DNS, which would direct mail to a different IP address than the A record for altawi.com.sa, which is the server hosting your web pages.

As we have told you multiple times, you need to find a mentor who understands basic IP technology, preferable one who understands your native language.

Ahmedsa

The missing part of the external DNS settings is what Charlie has advised in the previous post.
For altawi.com.sa DNS records, you need to add a MX record that points to mserver.altawi.com.sa on IP 78.93.244.61

If you add that MX record (without changing anything else as shown below), then mail for user@altawi.com.sa will be delivered to the SME server mail server at mserver.altawi.com.sa, which I understand is what you are trying to achieve.

Here are the testing results to confirm the above conclusion.

I gather the web server is at altawi.com.sa
Checking records just now for altawi.com.sa,
There is an A record which points at 78.46.81.166
There is no MX record, but as there is an A record then mail (sent to user@altawi.com.sa) should get delivered to the server at altawi.com.sa.
The problem is that this server is not accepting mail, & you want mail delivered to a different server.
A port scan shows the following ports open, 21, 22, 25, 53, 80, 110, 143, 443, 587.
Checking SMTP functionality there is something wrong, the SMTP server does not respond, I get
Connecting to 78.46.81.166
SendSMTPCommand: Timeout waiting for response after 15 seconds.
PWS3v2 17348ms

There are other warnings too, but as this is not really meant to be used as your mail server, then I assume these errors are not of significance.
Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner
SMTP TLS    Warning - Does not support TLS

Now, regarding the SME server that you want to act as a mail server for altawi.com.sa

I gather the SME mail server is at
mserver.altawi.com.sa

Checking records just now for mserver.altawi.com.sa,
There is an A record which points at 78.93.244.61 so that looks OK
There is no MX record, but as there is an A record then mail (sent to user@mserver.altawi.com.sa) should get delivered, so this looks OK.
(Note that mail sent to user@altawi.com.sa will not get delivered to mserver@altawi.com.sa at present as there is no MX record at altawi.com.sa).

A port scan shows only port 25 open.
Checking SMTP functionality I get

Connecting to 78.93.244.61
220 mserver.altawi.com.sa ESMTP [1922 ms]
EHLO PWS3.mxtoolbox.com
250-altawi.com.sa Hi pws3.mxtoolbox.com [64.20.227.134]
250-PIPELINING
250-8BITMIME
250-SIZE 15000000
250 STARTTLS [875 ms]
MAIL FROM:<supertool@mxtoolbox.com>
250 <supertool@mxtoolbox.com>, sender OK - how exciting to get mail from you! [875 ms]
RCPT TO:<test@example.com>
550 relaying denied test@example.com [891 ms]
PWS3v2 7078ms

So please add the MX record to altawi.com.sa & mail receipt should be resolved.

Hooray you have finally configured only the one mx record for altawi.com.sa just like you were advised as far back as May 2015.
mx:altawi.com.sa
0  mserver.altawi.com.sa  78.93.244.61

So is incoming mail working OK now ?
