squidguard
« on: March 09, 2015, 11:29:16 AM »
Hello there folks!
I am preparing a new sme9 server, and would like to refine the proxy-filtering.
My old trusty rusty server has squidguard which goes on without a hiccup. and it has smeserver-squidguard on it.
I use shallalist as blacklist (url moved to http://www.shallalist.de/Downloads/shallalist.tar.gz )

Now I see smeserver-webfilter which does use squidguard but also filters with clamav and logs in db.

I would not like to put additional strain on the server, so I am asking you:

1) is smeserver-squidguard still somewhere and usable on sme9

2) have many of you smeserver-webfilter and does it work with shalla?

ciao from Italy,

Michel

If you disable the database logging and clamav filtering (see the wiki page), it'll just be squidguard, and won't take any additional resources. As for the Shallalist, I'm not sure (I couldn't integrate it directly into the contrib as commercial usage requires a contract), but it should be quite straight forward to

- Disable the default database updates
- Add a cron job which download shallalist, extract it in /var/squidGuard/blacklist
- Recompile the lists and reload squidGuard (by calling /etc/e-smith/events/actions/squidguard-update-databases)
C'est la fin du monde !!!

Well the Howto is still there for sme7 & probably OK for sme 8
http://wiki.contribs.org/SquidGuard
You would need to test to see if it runs on sme 9 as there were path changes & so on.

Also see this for pointers re Dansguardian, it could be modified to suit.

Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.

well, I would be able to construct some ad-hoc working solution, but I prefer to use the most supported way for sme, give some feedback, write a howto..

so, is squidguard still the way to go for proxy filtering? if so, I would prefer to build (and give some feedback) on the available package, ie. smeserver-webfilter
I am not sure if I would be able to modify the sme8-squidguard for sme9. moreover it looks like webfilter has many of the features there, apart from the possibility to specify blacklist locations.

so, Daniel, can I ask to make the blacklist a db entry? -> bug 8869

ciao from Italy,
Michel
