Install Ddclient on SME Server 9
« on: October 21, 2014, 07:43:57 AM »
Hi everyone

I tried install ddclient on my new SME server 9 server & got the following;

[root@vbox-sme ~]# yum install --enablerepo=stephdl,epel smeserver-ddclient
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, smeserver

Setting up Install Process
No package smeserver-ddclient available.
Error: Nothing to do
[root@vbox-sme ~]#

From the error message, it appears that the ddclient package is not available for SME 9. I followed the instrctions at http://wiki.contribs.org/Ddclient.

Can anyone advise what the problem is?

TIA

Peter

Did you enable the repositories epel and stephdl as per the wiki instructions?

Doesn't "yum install --enablerepo=stephdl,epel smeserver-ddclient" enable the repos?

The wiki article makes no other mention of it.

Thanks,

Peter

No, repo's have to be 'installed' before you can use them

Yes, the wiki article specifically tells you that you have to enable the additional repo's

and it assumes you have read this: http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Adding_Software#Yum_Repositories

as an additional note, the wiki page has been changed regarding the yum install instructions.

yum install xyz --enablerepo=stephdl,epel vs yum install yxz --enablerepo=stephdl --enablerepo=epel

by the latter command, yum will fail if a repo is not defined and will inform you about it. That would have given you a clue, and not that the contrib is not available.

Good one hf, a subtle difference but a significant effect.
