Webmail on SME, when website is hosted externally
« on: August 06, 2014, 03:51:00 PM »
I've been trying to get my head round this, though I haven't tested it yet. If mycompany.com has it's website hosted externally, then to access it from an internal computer the hostname www.mycompany.com has to be set to the webserver IP in the hostname and addresses panel.

My question is, what does this do to webmail? The URL for webmail includes www.mycompany.com, so will it break it?

TIA
Jim

Yes, that will be a problem.  The easiest solution is to call your SME server something other than www.mycompany.com, like mail.mycompany.com, and publish the appropriate DNS records to match.  Then you just go to https://mail.mycompany.com/webmail.
