Strange Cron notification from Cron Daemon
« on: March 17, 2014, 04:25:24 PM »
Today I got this email from Cron Daemon with a subject of: Cron <root@larry-server> run-parts /etc/cron.daily

/etc/cron.daily/conf-mod_ssl:

You are about to be asked to enter information that will be incorporated
into your certificate request.
What you are about to enter is what is called a Distinguished Name or a DN.
There are quite a few fields but you can leave some blank
For some fields there will be a default value,
If you enter '.', the field will be left blank.
-----
Country Name (2 letter code) [GB]:State or Province Name (full name) [Berkshire]:Locality Name (eg, city) [Newbury]:Organization Name (eg, company) [My Company Ltd]:Organizational Unit Name (eg, section) []:Common Name (eg, your name or your server's hostname) []:Email Address []:

What is this and should I do something?
......
Thanks for your help,
Henry

Having done some searching, I find this to be a reported bug from long ago. Is this bug reappearing and should I make a bug report?
......
Thanks for your help,
Henry

Hi, henry44
Before we can help you, you need to tell us more about your setup:

- what version of SME are you running
- what hardware
- anything you may have done to change the system from just before the messages started
- when the messages started
- what was the bug number that you mentioned

I may be baffled but others may be able to help if you give that information.
And read that bug report through to the end - it may have solved the problem already.

Cheers
Ian

What is this and should I do something?

That means that your server's self-signed SSL certificate was being regenerated because it was approaching its expiry date.

You should choose the option in the admin console to reconfigure the server, so that all services which use the certificate get reconfigured to use the new certificate, and the services get restarted.

Your users will probably get alerts from their web browsers and email programs, and will have to accept the new certificate.

Thanks. The comment about having to accept the new certificate aligns with what we experienced. There are only 2 users, so tracking this was easy. I want to do the 'reconfigure' process as CharlieBrady suggests, but don't want to actually change anything. Would I be correct in assuming that I just move through the screens, making no changes, until I get to the end?

Thanks for your help,

No.

I think you should read the manual at least once more:
