Hi everybody,
Charlie Brady told me in the Bugtracker to ask this here, He said:
> If you want a user to only be able to change one iBay, only add that user to the
> group which has write access to that iBay.

Well i just tried that out on a SME9, all updates installed ...
- New Group that has only one Testuser and on ibay
- checked the iBay Settings :
 => Read: Group, Write: Group
- Added my IP to the local Networks
- I am using Port 5022 for SSH
- I am Using WinSCP

Result:
1. I can login with root .. no problem;
2. Try to access the Server (same IP, same Port as root)
 => I get this Message:
Connection has been unexpectedly closed. Server sent commanexit Status 1.
Cannot initialize SFTP protocol.
Is the host running a SFTP Server?

BUT: Funny thing, if i enter the wrong password, he tells me: "Wrong password"
and ask's me to try it again!?

Any explanations?
Thanks to everyone trying to help

I am not exactly sure of how you are trying to access the ibay, it seems you want to use SFTP.

Please read
http://wiki.contribs.org/SFTP
&
http://wiki.contribs.org/FTP_Access_to_Ibays

If after working through all that you still have problems, then ask here again.

Generally speaking, you need to login as a permitted user & then cd to the ibay folder (using the cd command in WinSCP).
Then you should be able to write to the ibay.
IIRC there is a smeserver-remoteuseraccess contrib that you will probably need to install (it is mentioned in the FTP Access to Ibays wiki article).

Also I suggest searching these forums on SFTP & FTP as there were some good advice & instructions posted a few years ago.
Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.

Hi Janet,
thanks for the Links. They do not help because i am using SME8 and SME9.
None of the described things work.

Charlie wrote, that i only need to the User over the Group to his ibay and then this user can, with his username and password log into the server ... but it does not work.

Please read my first post till the end.
But thanks for trying,
Rudi

if you want a user to login via ssh/sftp, IIRC you must change the default shell

The general concepts are the same between sme server versions, & old contribs will usually work on newer sme versions (not always of course).

You need to be more specific if you want help.
Exactly what thing(s) did you do that did not work ?

Please provide a link or bug number to where that advice was given.

Again specify more exactly what you did, what result occurred, & what you mean by it did not work eg quote error messages & excerpts from log files showing what error was recorded relating to your access attempt etc etc, provide specifics please rather than generalities.

Please read my first post till the end.

I did read all your post but the clarity of information you provided is poor. As I said, it is not clear to me what you are trying to do.
You have still not answered that.
Please provide URLs that you use, please give more details of how you are using WinSCP etc, so it is clearer to us regarding exactly what you have done, that you say is not working.

We need to see exact steps followed, exact error messages, exact log file excerpts etc. All these info will lead us to the source of your problem.

Have you enabled FTP in server manager ?
