SME9 email client
« on: December 13, 2013, 03:27:38 PM »
What email client is SME9 going to use using? I presume that this decision has been made some time ago - I am just unaware of the answer.

The reason I am asking is that:
1) I was looking at the new KOOZALI website (very nice indeed BTW - slick) and saw screenshots of RoundCube:
http://www.koozali.org/home/current-stable-release#screenshots   ...   3rd line from the bottom, on the LHS.

2) I then had a little hunt around the site - maybe there is mention of Horde somewhere, but I didn't see it.

3) I have seen a few (an increasing number of) posts regarding RoundCube in the Forum recently.
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php/topic,49948.0.html

4) There was a very interesting Forum post that included the summary results of clients user experience Horde v's RoundCube - and RoundCube seemed to be liked.
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php/topic,50426.msg253562.html#msg253562   ...   2c "Roundcube, was liked by everyone ..."

So   ...   I am getting the feeling that RoundCube maybe in the tea-leaves. Which got me thinking about SME9  ...

edit - I have just noticed that the calendaring shown in the Koozali site screenshots  (of SME stable) is that from SOGo.

SME9 will continue to ship horde. The screenshots on the website just show a few contribs (mainly SOGo and roundcube)
C'est la fin du monde !!!

John,
Thanks for those links. However, I currently don't have any spare h/w to test SME9 - I will try and rectify this in the New Year.

For those that are interested - here is the demo of Horde-5.1:
http://demo.horde.org/services/portal/index.php

The demo seems SO slowwwwww - is this the experience in production?

In previous experience, when I have tested a demo on the web and it has been slow, although I have thought / assumed that it would be faster when on the LAN, this hasn't proven to be the case.

My understanding is that sme9 v1.0 release will replicate the features & functionality of sme8, except it will use CentOS 6 as the underlying operating system.
Bug fixes etc will be implemented but no major changes or additions.

Future releases of sme9 will look at implementing feature changes & improvements, as developer "man/woman power" & motivation allow.

So essentially whatever is in sme8 now, is what will be in sme9.0 (final release).
Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.
The Search & other links to useful information are at top of Forum.

That's correct. No change of the webmail client is expected for SME 9.0.
Beyond SME 9 there is no decision yet on the webmail client.
