No raid and no lvm - How to give install directions
« on: October 16, 2013, 01:32:51 PM »
Hi
a bit confused finding the grafical installer of centos I've not understood where I can configure the install without raid and without lvm (actually installing a KVM vm on Proxmox: I do not need raid and no lvm is suggested in proxmox ve); should I "hack" manually the partitioning layout in Centos installer ?

I *think* you toggle between modes with the arrow keys.

This may refer : http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7354#c2

Also have a look at this : http://linuxpedia.net/how-to-install-centos-6-in-text-mode/

As this is still very much Beta please keep a close eye on the bug tracker.

I made some tests (this is a single drive vm); it seems that at the present time the old command line options to start sme install are not provided.
Going in text mode at "boot:" prompt with Esc you can't use "sme raid=none nolvm" but only standard Red Hat/Centos options (https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Installation_Guide/ch-Boot-x86.html) such ad "linux text" or "linux mediacheck".
cat /proc/mdstat shows that actually no raid has been configured (as a default I should get a RAID1 working with 1 drive).
Not a bug I think, we're still on developement  . . .. .  8)
However should I raise a bug to put those options in "to-do-list" ?

I think that i have read about development that the next beta 2 will focus on the installer, rightly to keep the old automatic installer , but also with the centos default installer available for special needs

The lack of support for command line options is valid for Beta 1. At least some will be back for Beta 2.
It may be that not all will be ready for Beta 2, but currently the plan is that all traditional SME command line options will be working again for Beta 2.

As a further answer, the RAID support is already in CVS ready for testing once I rebuild a test ISO.
