I have 2 SME 7.5.1 servers that somehow were missed in upgrading to SME 8 and are now ready for replacement. Usually I use the admin menu and select item 8 "Perform backup to USB device" and use the resulting backup for the restore from backup option on a clean SME 8 install.
My problem is that neither of these servers "find" the USB drive. Instead I get a box labeled "Backup medium not found" with the message "No removable media or device found". Watching /var/log/messages shows that the device is detected:
Oct 9 10:38:38 e317 kernel: Attached scsi disk sdd at scsi5, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
A sanity check of the device says:
[root@e317 ~]# fdisk -l /dev/sdd
Disk /dev/sdd: 2000.3 GB, 2000398934016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 243201 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdd1 1 243201 1953512001 83 Linux
I have tried multiple disks and USB ports. All the disks are mountable and are able to be written and read.
What to do?
Upgrade the servers to get a backup?
Is there a way to make the smeserver.tgz file manually?
