[Announce] New contrib Automysqlbackup
« on: May 29, 2013, 10:03:51 PM »
Hi all

I'd to present you my first work as a contributor with a contrib named AutoMysqlBackup which the purpose is to make automatically backups of your mysql databases. I have written a wiki page, and of course you are free to correct my english grammar :-)

http://wiki.contribs.org/AutoMysqlBackup

The contrib is not yet in the smecontribs repository, but i hope it is a question of days, so the link is on my personal repository de-labrusse.fr : http://mirror.de-labrusse.fr/

There is no panel for this time but it is probably a work i will do a day when i will be more stronger with Formmagick....Never says Never.

There  are plenty of ways to do backups, but i would a simply way with the possibility to export the backup outside of your server. AutoMysqlBackup gives you the opportunity to send the DB split by mail on an exterior mailbox as Gmail or whatever mail account of your choice.
Voila if my work can help you it is nice for me.

Can you please explain why you feel a seperate backup of mysql databases is neeeded.

A backup of all mysql db's are included in the normal server manager backups, & are seperate files in the backup eg mysqldbname.dump IIRC, so they are easily retrievable from a daily or weekly backup.

This is the essential question of the world, maybe because i could do it

I do not use the server abilities to backup itself and moreover I wanted to export my databases outside of my server in an easy way.
If you want to migrate your web site it is easier when you get already your database in your hand than to look into an archive to extract it.

However i didn't know that the server-manager-backup can save custom databases i thought that it does backup only of users and ibays, of course with its internal databases.

Of course mysql databases are included in all supported backups.

Perhaps you should read this for further general information re backup & restore
http://wiki.contribs.org/Backup_server_config
and particularly this

There is no ability to create custom backup jobs, but all databases are included in the default backup.
You could use the exclude function to exclude virtually everything except the mysql databases, refer
