Topic: New hard drive RAID configuration

I have just installed SME in a Virtualbox machine and things went fine.  I started with one hard drive.  I then added another and the RAID auto recognition/install worked perfectly.  I have now added two more drives, but they do not seem to get recognized.  Is this normal?  What is the solution?

Should add, Raid 1 is up to 3 drives..so you can omnly add the one..

To do two you are into Raid 5, there are instructions on that page as well.

Or did you simply want to add two drives as extra storage?

Using RAID on virtual hardware is questionable. Your protection against hard drive loss should really be done on the host system, not the guest.

This is just to learn on.  Not a production machine.  I have a few servers that I'm looking to install this OS on though.

Well something definitely went wrong so I deleted that virtual machine and started a new one.

I started fresh with 4 SATA 20 GB hard drives.  It seemed to format the first one but then the following Exception Occurred:

Traceback (most recent call first):
File "/tmp/updates/language.py", line 216, in write
f=open(instPath + "/etc/sysconfig/i18n","w")

And it continues on with many more lines.

The install then exists.

I may be slow, but setting up a raid array in a vm environment for testing just doesn't sound right. Emulating core functionality in an abstraction layer makes no sense to me. But then agian, I could be wrong.

as long as you use it to make tests and simulations I can't see anything wrong

This is likely to be a corruption issue such as bad download, bad CD burn, RAM problem, etc. Make sure that you do a media check before proceeding with the install.
