Install PAE Kernel
« on: September 30, 2012, 08:59:25 AM »
I have an Intel S5000VSA/S5000VSA, BIOS S5000.86B.10.00.0088.031420081550 03/14/2008 Server which had 2 X 1GB ECC RAM which I installed SME8.0 on 2 X 2Tb SATA Drives. All fine.

I then found 2 X 2Gb ECC RAM which I have added to the board as directed giving 6Gb RAM, to find that I needed the PAE Kernel to use more than 4Gb RAM.

yum install kernel-PAE has run and I selected 2.6.18-308.13.1.el5PAE on boot. Everything seems fine.

Questions:
Would the PAE Kernel have been installed If I had >4Gb RAM upon original installation?
Should I anticipate errors during subsequent updates?

I appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thanks for your help.
