ERROR IN LOG FILES
« on: May 28, 2012, 05:04:50 AM »
Acer SA90 - 2GB RAM

After a fresh install of SME8.0 I get the following error in the log file:
Quote
May 28 12:29:43 sme55 kernel: ACPI Error (psparse-0537): Method parse/execution failed [\_PR_.CPU2._PDC] (Node f7c8dab8), AE_NO_MEMORY
May 28 12:29:43 sme55 kernel: ACPI Error (psparse-0537): Method parse/execution failed [\_PR_.CPU3._PDC] (Node f7c8da68), AE_NO_MEMORY

If I install 8.0beta7 and NO updates there are NO errors in the log file.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

John A

searching with google for "ACPI Error Method parse/execution failed [\_PR_.CPU2._PDC] AE_NO_MEMORY" gave me some results..

if you can, boot from an old kernel..

when you say:
Quote
If I install 8.0beta7 and NO updates there are NO errors in the log file.

do you mean that on the SAME hw there are no errors?

Stefano,

Did a Google search but did not find a solution, only users with same problem.

Yes same machine with same hardware. I have just done a clean install of SME Server 8.0beta7 and there are not errors relating to the ACPI Error. If I download the update from yum then after a reboot the error will appear. If I do a clean install of the new SME Server 8.0 the errors will appear.

I can't post the log file for the SME Server 8.0beta7 as it is too big (unless you can tell me how to)

Thanks in advance
Regards,

John A

then install SME8.b7, do a yum update to upgrade to 8

when all is finished, reboot your server using the previous kernel and edit grub.conf file to use it as the default kernel.. (search the forums, I'm sure you'll find some usefull info)

Stefano,

Thanks for your reply, If I edit the grub.conf file and only boot from the 8.0beta7 kernel does that mean that I will never be able to update to the latest kernel?
Also will future update install and work with the older kernel? - Please excuse my lack of knowledge

none of the updates (but the kernel's one) will be affected..

when a new kernel will be available, update to is, try it and if it doesn't work, boot with the old one..

just remember that you will keep only the last 3 kernels, so, before upgrading, remove one of the newer..

Acer SA90 - 2GB RAM

Did the system come with 2GB or did you increase the memory? Either way, I think your system has a problem in the DSDT

Charlie and Stefano,

Thank you both for your replies. The "DSDT" is way over my head, so I will just load win7 onto it and use it as a spare windows machine.

This is the second machine in the last couple of months that I had to move it to windows because of ACPI problems.

Finding the right Motherboard for a new built or a fairly new second hand machine to run SME appears to me to be getting harder. Much easier when I started on 5.x

Thank you both again for your help.

John A

the solution is easy: use only branded and certified hw..
we are talking about servers, not playstations..

HP's microserver is cheap and fully supported..

saving a few bucks for cheap hw and spend many hours to try to make it work is not a good choice IMVHO

... so I will just load win7 onto it and use it as a spare windows machine.

I wouldn't both doing that if the only problem is some text in a logfile.
