My drives are failing and Im going to create a fresh system from scratch.

I have not installed a contrib for a while, so first of all I got a bunch of errors, did the research and found that I had to read about the changes to the mirrors etc.

Important Update Information for SME 7.xx Users - Special Instructions
 http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=48424.0

Ok followed the instructions. Good seems to have installed the files happily.

Now The first contribs that I was going to install was
 http://wiki.contribs.org/Sysmon
However I get the error
Error: Missing Dependency: libart_lgpl_2.so.2 is needed by package rrdtool

I read up on this and see the following Bug report
 http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3847
I tried to read some of the other messages regarding this error, and I think what its saying is that this basically is not going to work untill SME 8. Is that right? Some have tried to install the rpm from other sources but it seems to create other problems.

I have two questions.
Have I read this properly. Or is there a way to get this dependency, for this and other contribs.

Secondly if it is ture that they can't be run should there be a NOTE on this contrib and it also appears
 http://wiki.contribs.org/SystemMonitor
Because it seems to suffer from the same problem. (Im sure there are others).

This would help people who come to those contribs see clearly if they work or not and not waste time on installing them if they do not. I dont understand enough about the various rpms and addons needed to understand the issue. But I guess Im trying to think of the end users like myself at least going to the help page and it clearly saying its not going to work or what have you. I would be happy to add it to the documentation, but I dont understand it enough to do so.

I would love to try SME 8 however, I read that it should not be used on a production system, and I take this to mean what it says, and this is a  production system so I can't.

Assuming that you have successfully performed the upgrade, and that you have Reset yum updates repositories to defaults (section 3 & 4), there is no reasons why you cannot access deps. However, have you checked:

http://wiki.contribs.org/SME8.0_Contribs_QA#SystemMonitor

And in particular the last para on the page:
SystemMonitor - graphs not being created (samba graph works). Workaround: there is a version from Nethesis which comes very close in its functionality. Use deps from sme8contribs. Check: http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=47882.new;topicseen#new

I am running this contrib on sme8.7 using this method, no problem.

If you continue experiencing dependency issues, please open a bug at Bugzilla, the Devs need to know about it. Provide as much information as you can about the way you upgraded your system.

Thanks.

If it does not work out of the box, please fill in a Bug Report @ Bugzilla (http://bugs.contribs.org)  - check: http://wiki.contribs.org/Bugzilla_Help .  Thanks.

Christopher,
Thank you for your reply. Im not sure if you mispoke or if it makes a difference, but this is not an upgrade, I have decided to do a clean install. If possibly a fresh start is always better, for me. SME always installs nicely and is reasonably easy to set up. The defaults.

I was not exactly sure which sections you were refering to (Im sure it was something I pointed to but now cant figure it out.) but perhaps it was from

http://wiki.contribs.org/Updating_from_SME_7.1.x_or_earlier
So I ran the following based on that Wiki.

 cd /home/e-smith/db/
 mv yum_repositories yum_repositories.po
 /etc/e-smith/events/actions/initialize-default-databases
 signal-event yum-modify
 signal-event post-upgrade; signal-event reboot

3.Obtain the remaining support files
 yum update dbus dbus-glib smeserver-support

 4.Obtain remaining updates and reboot
 yum update
 signal-event post-upgrade; signal-event reboot.

Then I installed the
 http://wiki.contribs.org/Sysmon

And surpise ... (perhaps not to you but for me) It worked no problems.

Thank you for your help.

My bad, I thought you were moving to sme8...
Good to see that your issue is resolved.
