installing intermediate certificates [solved]
« on: October 31, 2011, 07:36:08 PM »
I purchased a certificate for a single domain from Network Solutions. The installation instructions for SME worked just fine, as far as they go.

We are still having a few bumps here and there with mail clients. The tech rep at NS told me the intermediate files were not installed, and that may be causing the (or a) problem. He verified the main certificate was present. I do not know how he did this check.

The files I received from NS include...
  www.mydomain.com.crt
  UTNAddTrustServer_CA.crt
  NetworkSolutions_CA.crt
  AddTrustExternalCARoot.crt

and "Apache_Plesk_Install.txt".

Edit: I should also note that all these files are on the SME in the same directory as www.mydomain.crt.

I have found a couple of threads that speak to the issue in general. This one: http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=32422.0, regarding GoDaddy seems to be on target.

Is combining the three intermediate files into one and using the db property CertificateChainFile, as per the GoDaddy case, the proper way to handle this?

Is there another method for installing these files in SME 8?

EDIT: After a bit of thinking and time to consider, along with a healthy dose of serendipity while looking for something unrelated, I came across this post: http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4450. I believe this clarifies the issues around my question.
