Dahdi instead of Zaptel on exsisting system
« on: March 02, 2010, 06:09:38 AM »
Is it worth switching from ZAPTEL to DAHDI?

If so, what steps do I need to take and I guess a kernal upgrade would be in order here as I have avoided a kernal upgrade for sometime now.

I have already done some research and only ask questions if I still can't work it out.

Digium  dropped the Zaptel name because someone else owned copyright on the name (not on the software).  The difference between the early versions of DAHDI and  Zaptel are little more than a name change.

You will need to upgrade asterisk using a version equal to or greater than  1.4.23 (when Dahdi arrived).  This, in turn means that you will need to yum upgrade your kernel to a release for which there is an equivalent dahdi-kmdl module.  If this sounds like a pain, that's because it is.  Better to experiment on a spare machine first before you go tearing down any live systems.

Kind Regards
