Voicemail greeting storage
« on: June 26, 2009, 12:26:30 AM »
Hi
Each time we upgrade the greeting, busy and unavailable messages for each ext disappear. I have found them stored in "/var/spool/asterisk/voicemail/default/xxxx" when recorded. There are other directories called default0, default1... to default5. Are they just backups and can be deleted after moving the recordings back to default?
Also noted the default/1234 uses gsm format for the message and sounds clearer than the wav files recorded from the phone. Is it possible to replace the recordings with a better sound quality message?
Thanks
Regards

HI

You can merge the defaultn stuff.  It is caused by a bug which I've never been able to track down.  Just copy everything back into default and delete the defaultn directories.

You can use externally recorded messages if you wish.  You might want to read up on the bit rates and sample rates that Asterisk can play back because you can't use regular 44.1Khz type audio. There's a fair bit of information on voip-info on how to do it.

Best

Thanks Jeff
So we can delete all the extra defaultx directories safely? This is just so it will be easier to get the current recorded messages after an update.
