Problems Logging into FTP Server (SME 7.x Server Only)
« on: February 09, 2009, 12:23:36 PM »
Hi All,

I am in a bit of a pickle!!

I have a SME 7.2 server which is behind a Netgear FVS338 VPN Router.

The SME server is setup in a Server Only Mode and it is just serving our webpage. And my designer needs to update the website.

I have allowed the http and the ftp protocols through the Netgear router and they seem to be working i think but........

I can access the FTP Server via the local LAN ok!!

Login ok and access the directory structure of the server ok!!

But when I try to access the FTP server externally I am getting the following error messages in my FTP client (I am using Core FTP LE and File Zilla)

Resolving ftp.mydomain.com.au...
Connect socket #888 to 150.xxx.xxx.xxx, port 21...
220 192.168.69.253 FTP server ready
USER admin
331 Password required for admin
PASS **********
530 Login incorrect.

Now I am using the correct password for the admin user (yes I did type the password with one finger!!!)

But i have noticed the the ftp server is displaying the local ip address (in bold).

Also the FTP Server is setup to be available to the entire Internet and to accept passwords from local networks.

So I am at a bit of a loss, I would really appreciate any help.

Cheers

The ftp server is setup to only allow passwords from the local network, meaning that anyone who tries to authenticate from the outside will get an authentication failure.
Try switching it to allow passwords from the Internet and see what happens (e.g. Internet (no password required) ).
