Topic: backup with dar

I have been using backup with dar (great backup program), but i have one issue. i have a i-bay called datavol in this i-bay is all of my companies data plus a folder called music with several gigabytes of music that i don't need backed up. My question is how do I exclude this folder (music) from backing up?

Do the same but use the 50exclude file instead and exclude the directory you don't want backed up I'm guessing.

Just out of interest can you confirm which backup program you are using, it seems people are confusing these two.

Did you check that a restore works OK now, with the exclusion in place.
There were reports in bugzilla of serious problems when a lot of exclusions were made
ie the restore did not work properly.

Backup with dar is meant to be a full system backup tool.

I have both DAR & DAR2 installed. I've copied & modified the 50Exclude template. Do I need to do anything with DAR2? Which one takes precedence, or do they play nice together??

They are completely independent of each other. They do not share any templates. Each has its own. They can both be installed together on the same system. A best practice to reduce system overhead would be to offset your backup events so they do not execute concurrently.

Thanks Darrell, I see DAR2 now after reboot. Is one preferable over the other?

my experience has been if you have dar2 loaded and backup with dar loaded and are using backup with dar that you will not be able to restore the backup to dar without removing dar2. there was some kind of conflict between the two files. I removed dar2 and use only back with dar (which from what i understand is the default for SME now). Both are excellent programs but I would choose one or the other. I don't see why you would want both running.
