Access Server Manager - Connection refused??
« on: June 20, 2008, 05:45:18 PM »
Hi all,

Something has gone south after a dansguardian update today on our all-in one 7.3 server-gateway. The box is fully up-to-date and the dansguardian update was the only outstanding update.

I don't know where to start to fix things.

1) su admin via a console lets me into sme server, but *not* into "Access server manager" - "Connection refused" Therefore I cannot access any server panels!
Same happens at the server itself.

2) E-mail *and* all our own web services at our domain are down (*but* the internet is accessible). The following occurs after browsing to our e-mail url or to our website (hosted on the same gateway-server)
Quote
ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved
While trying to retrieve the URL: <name_removed_for_this_post>:443
The following error was encountered:
    * Connection to <IP_address_removed_for_this_post> Failed
The system returned:
    (111) Connection refused
The remote host or network may be down. Please try the request again.

Above sounds very specific - our settings have been changed somehow, likely by the dansguardian update.
Fortunately I can reach the box via ssh public/private keys, so can remotely access the cli.

Any help, please? Quite urgent - I have > 600 users...

A forum search reveals no other issues of this nature

EDIT:  Too many edits accumulating  as I think of things. Please read my next message in this thread >>

Too many edits, so I moved them to this reply:

Updates to my issue - this is serious, guys - some help please?

# service httpd-e-smith status
down: /service/httpd-e-smith: 3508s

# config show httpd-e-smith
httpd-e-smith=service
    TCPPort=80
    access=public
    status=disabled

It stays down even after a service restart

I found this repeated many times in /var/log/httpd/error_log.20080616224538:

I actually don't think these logs shown the exact current situation. If I try su admin, then go to "Access Server Manager" /var log messages only shows:
Quote
Jun 20 19:04:41 tincan su(pam_unix)[7497]: session opened for user admin by root(uid=0)

Apologies for all these snippets.
Which log may show something more appropriate, do you think?

Hi all,

I suggest hitting the bugtracker and report a bug against this contrib, post the referral to this bug for future reference. Try to document you serves history and status and your actions as detailed as possible.

Perhaps if you remove dansguardian that some stuff will be restored?

Re: Access Server Manager - Connection refused?? - RESOLVED

cactus,

Good idea, especially seeing no-one else has responded.

http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4421

I'm stating to get that hollow feeling in the pit of the stomach - On Monday I must have either fixed this or have a workaround.
What do you think?
Maybe install another server on the internal LAN and forward mail to that. Will it route mail back through the sme gateway to WAN users?

EDIT: Issue resolved, thanks to Jonathan. Was user error - me   :oops: - if you're interested, check out the bug thread.
