iconv: illegal input sequence at position *** (Solved)
« on: April 22, 2008, 03:56:20 AM »
I have the same messed up Server-Manager page as others.

As per the wiki,
Code: [Select]
http://wiki.contribs.org/Translations#Outdated_contribs I tried running the following:
[root@myserver ~]# find /etc/e-smith/locale/ -type f | xargs -n1 iconv -f UTF-8  -t UTF-8 > /dev/null
iconv: illegal input sequence at position 275
iconv: illegal input sequence at position 462

I searched and found this comment by Elmarconi http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=40768.30 and just thought it belonged in its own post.

Any help with what this is and what to do about it would be appreciated

As stated, problem can be tackled by moving /etc/e-smith/locale/fr to another location, e.g. /root/etc/e-smith/locale/fr.

BTW: I do not have your first error: position 275. That might be another contrib.
Please list installed contribs by running:

/sbin/e-smith/audittools/newrpms | grep smeserver

...

I got rid of both errors by moving the fr directory as you suggested.

I ran the other command with the following results:

[root@myserver ~]# /sbin/e-smith/audittools/newrpms | grep smeserver

Then I followed this:
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=40768.30

specifically;

yum update --enablerepo=smecontribs
 signal-event post-upgrade
 signal-event reboot

and then server mgr is back to normal.

Thx Elmarconi and Cactus

I had looked at, but failed to read it . It looks like the fetchmail contrib was the problem.

Thanks

Sorry ... it's fixed now.
I had to do a
Code: [Select]
yum remove rrdtool-1.0.50-3.el4.rffollowed by
Code: [Select]
signal-event post-upgrade; signal-event reboot
After the reboot, I could then do the
Code: [Select]
yum update --enablerepo=smecontribs
signal-event post-upgrade; signal-event reboot

It is all fixed now ...
