hi,
i use sme server 7.3  upgrade from sme server 7.0
i install Modifying Dansguardian, it is work well.
i use pam auth.
i read this page http://wiki.contribs.org/Dansguardian and read same of forum for this.



Modifying other Dansguardian configuration files

These are located in

/etc/dansguardian/lists... 
/etc/dansguardian/lists/f1/... 





I haven't got
"/etc/dansguardian/lists/f1/" dirctory in lists directory?
This is a problem for me
i create myself "f1" directory but it is empty.


i can't Modifying Dansguardian configuration . Please help me.

What version of dansguardian did you install and how did you install it ?

yum --enablerepo=smecontribs install smeserver-dansguardian

please show output of
rpm -q dansguadian smeserver-dansguardian

try

rpm -qa | grep dansguardian

there is a spelling mistake in that command, try

try

rpm -qa | grep dansguardian

and post the results here.

Ok, so you have the latest rpm, then I do not know why you do not have the "f1" directory.

Perhaps someone else will come along who does.

In the interim, you could try uninstalling by

rpm -e dansguardian smeserver-dansguardian

and then re-install

yum install --enablerepo=smecontribs  dansguardian smeserver-dansguardian

i am update my server and remove Dansguardian than
install again it whit yum.there is no error but there is no f1 directory in /etc/dansguardian/lists/
can you send me f1 directory orj. files for sme 7.3.

It looks like the file/folder layout has changed in the more recent version of the dansguardian rpm.
I just installed it and there is no f1 folder.
In previous versions there was a f1 folder, but now all the config files are in /etc/dansguardian/lists/

So now you will need to create the f1, f2, f3 etc folders and then copy all the configuration files in /etc/dansguardian/lists
to
/etc/dansguardian/lists/f1/
and
/etc/dansguardian/lists/f2/
and
/etc/dansguardian/lists/f3/
etc etc

Then follow the Howto.

Each Auth login method suits different scenarios. Choose the one that's right for you.
The Howto says you need to disable Transparent proxy if using pam auth.

There is no best way.
You use the auth login method that your situation requires ie if you must authenticate against users on sme server, then you have to use pam auth, you have no other choice, and in that case you need to disable transparent proxy for pam auth to work OK.

If you are happy to maintain seperate user lists then you can use ncsa auth.
If you prefer to use ident auth then you need an ident client software on your workstations.
The reasons for using each vary.
There is no mention of disabling Transparent proxy for ncsa or ident auth in the Howto, so if you feel you must use a Transparent proxy then you are limited to using one of those auth methods.
