Python 2.4
« on: October 28, 2007, 09:38:36 AM »
Hi,

I would like to install tinyerp on my sme server 7.2 but it requires Python 2.4. I have search hours and hours to find a rpm which can upgrade or extend SME but i don't find it.

If I understand well, it's preferable to add support of the 2.4 version more than to replace the 2.3 version. Is it possible ? can you help me to do that ?

Many thanks in advance

Olivier

It might be possible. SME Server comes with python 2.3.4 installed in /usr/lib/python2.3, perhaps you could install python 2.4 in /usr/lin/python2.4?

If you install this RPM it is done automatically. Download it to your server and install it using the yum localinstall command.

I have tinyerp 4.0.3 running on SME with python 2.3.4 and no problems. Does tinyerp 4.2 require python 2.4?

O.k., I think you are right. I have tinyerp 4.0.3 running on SME7.2 using postgresql 7.x and python 2.3, but I was running into major problems while I tried to update to 4.2.0 yesterday. The update-scripts wouldn't work and I wasn't able to pg_restore databases. Don't know if the old postgresql or the old python was the reason and first I thought of bugs in tinyerp...

So I migrated the database and tinyerp-server 4.0.3 to a debian etch machine (postgresql 8.1, python 2.4) and the problems were suddenly all gone and I could update to 4.2.0.

So running tinyerp on SME7.2 doesn't seem to be the best idea at the moment. I once tried to update postgresql to 8.1 on SME and ended in complete reinstall of SME, so i've become careful. I think I'll stay on the debian machine for tinyerp until SME8.0 arrives.

I have installed devtools and compiled Python 2.4 + Postgres 8.19, Now it's time to install tinyerp, I will give you a feeback.
