Did you also install mythtv-setup and run that? Do you have the database installed?

Cactus,

thanks for the reply.
I read everything twice, got confused about the different posts.
I read about bout installing the myttv with Xwindows, but I only want the backend.
Can you point me in the right way to setup database and run mythtvsetup?

Hi there, I'm rather hesitant to post on forums as I either get ignored or my get head chewed off, but there comes a point where the fray needs entering.

Like edeganay (and others), I would like to get myth up and running on an SME-centered network. A fresh 7.2 install is on the box to be used as a backend. After reading the forums, I believe I was able to get the correct setting for getting the ATrpms from yum. Duncan's How-To was helpful to a point until it jumped around and omitted steps (for example exactly when/where to install and set up mythtv) that everyone seems to know except myself. When it came time to install the backend packages, I got this:

Code: [Select]
root@server bin]# yum install mythtv-backend --enablerepo=atrpms

So where am I going wrong? Also, slords posted the list of the mythtv/ivtv packages running on his backend. Would it be foolish to think that all those will be installed with yum?

Quote
If I remember correctly I needed the frontend package in order to load some of the graphical libraries needed to run mythtvsetup.  Beyond installing the above (plus dependencies) I enabled X11 forwarding and configured the system from one of the remote frontends.

It would be great if there was a walk-through explaining how you got all these working together, as I doubt this will be the only roadblock I stumble over.

ok looks like im wasting my time with the whole mythtv on sme thing. i enjoy learning new things and tweaking stuff from time to time but slogging through endless forums on multiple sites just to find partial or outdated information all while making no tangible progress is just getting old.

maybe i should just rent a tivo and be done with it.
