ipmasq - when ISP is a proxy

IP masp appearn not to work when your dial up ISP uses a proxy server. The browser settings need to be set for proxy, and not to "Direct Connection to the Internet". This seems to cause a problem in using the web interface for e-smith, and for getting on the internet via masq.

Should I use squid to access internet, or is there a way to set up masq / browser so that the manager web interface still works, and so does masq?

Thanks for any help.

Can't you in the browser use the "Do not use proxy for" settings for the addresses on your local network? The details is browser dependent, but exist in most (if not all) browsers.

Yes, you should use squid to access the internet. Whether your ISP blocks direct access or not.

However you should still be able to access the manager web interface. If you can't this is a bug with the e-smith server.

As Roald has said, the correct workaround is to set the "no proxy for" configuration in your browser.

Thank you Ronald and Charlie

- setting "not to use proxy for e-smith server address" worked fine. Can now again access Manager.

Working through the setup of Squid via Ctl-Alt-F3 mode and editing the squid.conf file. Given the significant number of ISPs using proxy servers (ar least here in Australia) might be worth considering option of setting it up as option to masq in Manager or Control Centre in future release?? But, can't be everything to everyone. A great feature of e-smith is its simplicity.
