Hi all,

Can SME send fax, ether on it's own or using a client >print to fax printer, etc. similar to how windows would fax using and fax modem ?

Please advise

Thanks

Moving to Contribs section.

Search for hylafax, you will find plenty of topics on the subject.
In life, you must either "Push, Pull or Get out of the way!"

If you have ISDN, you can also try Capisuite and a ISDN card like AVM Fritzcard, AVM B1 or Teles/S0.

I have build a tarball and a How-To (still only) in german:

http://www.smesmith.de/projekte/capisuite.html

Capisuite can also act as voice box.

Faxes are retrieved as e-mails. You can send faxes via e-mail to a special local user (PDF-document, which you want to fax as attachment, fax number in the subject), but not like printing to a fax printer as in Tobit Faxware, Fritzfax or with the Hylafax Client.

There is a Capisuite client named LISA, but it does not work in my environment.

No problem on moving to contribs, however my question was really about the standard SME installation.

I'm guessing by the answers I'm getting the answer is NO that SME cannot send a regular fax nor can the clients send a fax using any modem that is plugged into the SME box. etc.
That is of course without the exception of adding some other contribs to attempt to make it work, however it requires to send and receive faxes via email etc. if I understand these answers correctly ?

Thanks everyone for the replies I'll research some more on these options provided, but I'm not sure I want to go the way of email, I prefer simply using the client in some way to simply utililize the hardware on the SME box similar to sharing a printer. And send a fax in fax format, or and recieve a fax via the printer ?

Is there no way to simply install a fax modem and share the modem as with a printer ? Using the Standard SME installation ?

Please advise
Thanks

The fastest answer in all my life.
No
"It should just work" if it doesn't report it. Thanks!
