I have Desknow (http://www.desknow.com) working on SME 7.1.

After years of using SME for my mail server, I like Desknow better but I like the turnkey installation of SME for a base linux install.

If anyone is interested I'll post how I did it in the next few days.

Blakeh,

I read the DeskNow website and been impressed with the features, I also would ask you to post your How-To for the SME server ASAP.

Wow, Quite the response!

I'm still working out a couple of kinks and I'm getting ready to leave town today, but will try to get my notes posted either later today or tomorrow.

It's not really super difficult, but it is a little tricky and there are lots of steps.

Best of all, it's easily reversible if someone wants to go back to using sme's own mail systems.

More later.

In my opinion it would be more helpful to add it to the wiki and include a link to it in this thread. It is very frustrating (for me at least) to have to wade through discussion threads to see if I am using the most recent how-to...

Please share your process though, I too look forward to seeing it! It is too bad that their "lite" (free) version looses so many features, but it looks nice nonetheless...

Could I ask how this is different to the Horde?

I have got DeskNow running but did you get the AD or LDAP authentication working? atm I have to add the users twice (In Server Manager and in Desknow)

I haven't had a chance to work on the ldap authentication.  I was also going to see about using qmail as the mail engine since DeskNow supports qmail being the processor.

I'm also still trying to figure out how to have emails that the box generates get delivered to DN.

I'll post instructions a little later.

I like goup-office of stuck with group-office.

Hi imcintyre,

As of now, I am not having any issues yet. But I am still looking for other portals that have many functionalities such as messaging, forum... all in one.

Regards,
Mike

Try egroupware. There is a pretty good how to here and it has more functionality, including instant messaging. I think it also looks better and is completely free.

The only thing I did not like was the alarm/reminder function. It sends out an email but does not have a pop up or any auditory alarm. I know it's nitpicking but I like a little more intrusiveness in my alarm/reminder.
If someone figures out how this should work, I would switch back.

I've posted the how-to in a separate thread:

Hope this helps, let me know any feedback!
