Mail being sent over and over
« on: December 11, 2006, 08:21:50 AM »
Hello to all,
I am hoping for some advice. Our mail server seems to be sending an email over and over to one particular email address. I'm not sending it.
It is blocking up their email box and are screaming for me to fix this.
I'm not sure why this is happening.
Can any one help as to where to identify the problem?
Regards

mjc,

Try getting a copy of the full headers of the offending email.  Look at the IP address and domain name of the sending server.  Then, check your smtpfront-qmail/current logs for any transactions to the address in question.

This should at least verify whether or not your server is the culprit.  We get a ton of "spoofed" email which appears (to the casual or unsavvy user) to be coming from one source but is, in fact, coming from another.

Thanks for your reply. I found the culprit. We an email client on one of our machines called Argus. It is an Australian secure email client specifically for use in medical practice. The encrypted emails can be directly place into a electronic health record.
Somehow an email I sent was faulty, ie did not get a proper name of the addressee but had the email address in it.
Argus kept sending it over and over.
It had been in the out box for a couple of weeks.
Once I deleted that message the emails stopped.
Thankyou very much for your interest and kind reply.
A very happy and safe Xmas and New Year to you and other contributors.
